Don't take this as gospel, because I'm a fungi novice and have been known to be wrong (far more often than I'm right), but your fungus has a similar look to Pale Brittlestem - Psathyrella candolleana.
As a hint for the future, a more detailed/close-up shot, along with a good gill shot would assist WAB's fungi experts enormously in trying to ID your fungus.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: found 5.9.9 on woodchip can anyone help with identification please Hi Martin, welcome to WAB!
I have exactly this from last week on woodchip too - I am still researching for ID, had it as maybe cortinarius type, but still looking.
As some xtra help and detail, their is a strong valar remains under the cap, leaving a slight ring too.
Smell not distinctive but cap with streaked marks.
Trooping.
Spore colour is lightish brown, but not too certain.
About 1'' to 4'' across cap, younger specimens as in the pic, older are flatter caps.
I will check my pics when I get home for more detail! This is all from memory!
Cheers
Ken

Regards,
Mike. | Have a little faith in yourself Mike, you're doing just fine mate!!!
...and to be honest, your suggestion was based on the first image, and macroscopically speaking, your suggestion was perfectly acceptable!
My suggestion was based upon the second image- totally different from the first.
Mike, are you coming to Clumber? I'd have a look through the thread but it's like 283523852937452 pages long |

No I can't make it - I did post a reply to Dave.P's question in the treehouse thread, but as you say there are so many posts on WAB, I know how easy it is to miss something. Maybe next year.: - http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...tml#post521985

Regards,
Mike. | The problem with Agrocybe rivulosa is that it only appeared in the UK around the year 2000, and only in mainland Europe a few years earlier so it is not in many books. As far as I am aware (although someone will probably correct me) it has not been found yet in any natural habitat, only on man made wood chips. If you can get access to the following publications they may be useful in future Woodchip foraying.
British Wildlife Vol.18 No.2 p.98-105: The Global Fungal weeds: The toadstools of wood-chip beds.
Field Mycology: 2(1) p.6-11. Shaw,P J A & Kibby, G: The fungal biodiversity of ornemental woodchip

Just looked on British Wildlife magazine's website, and Vol 18 No.2 appears to be still available as a back issue. (Might just have to order a copy ).
Doesn't look like issue 2(1) of Field Mycology is still available though. (Will keep a look out though, just in case one crops up).
