| | Blushers Heya lads and lasses,
Wanted to show off the blushers i found when searching for dinner.
We found a fantastic spruce pine forest nearby absolutely packed with shaggy parasols. We also found a few Agaricus Augustus. We had them for breakfast this morning instead. Top notch grub Nick |

Blushers (A. Rubescens) are considered as a choice edible this side of the Channel.
They have to be young (as all mushies) before the cap has fully opened.
I personally haven't dared yet inspite of havng seen hundreds in September?
Anybody tried 'em?

| | | Re: Blushers lol yeah!!! A while back, i was photographing many different species of mushrooms when i came across a huge death cap. I was positioning it for photographs to use as ID photos. I wasn't wearing gloves. Stupid i know. I got home and all seemed fine until about 12.30 that night when i had the most painful violent stomach cramps i have ever had. For about a week i had to take some sort of pills for pain relief. My report came back with notes of 'Amatoxin poisoning'. Luckily, my case was only slight due to the acute ingestion through my mouth. That is why, when people ask about eating, i say Just be careful ( patronising for an 18 year old i know! ) because it really isn't a force to be reckoned with. I made a full recovery and i'm not put off by the slightest

Nick | Sounds awful. Glad you are okay. I am very careful to wash my hands (usually several times) after handling fungus but I don't wear gloves. Are there any fungi that should not be handled without gloves?

| | | Re: Blushers Well, i would say any poisonous mushroom should be handled wearing latex gloves but it is up to you I only feel like that due to past experiences
