| | | Another try for this one (ID Help) Found some more of these today, same species as this one posted yesterday: -
"Growing directly from a fallen branch (probably Larch). Stipe height about 50mm, cap width about 15mm".
Hoping these additional pics might possibly lead to an ID.
The larger one (pics. 1 & 2 below) was about 80mm tall, with a cap width of about 20mm. The smaller one (pic. 3) is about 40mm tall.
Both of these also growing directly on the wood of fallen Larch trunks.
Regards,
Mike. |

Looks like 'native' Redlead Roundhead - Stropharia aurantiaca. Nice to see it other than on woodchip and always much brighter colouring too!

| | | Re: Another try for this one (ID Help) Thanks John.
I'd just been doing a bit of web browsing, and had almost convinced myself that it was Stropharia hornemannii - Conifer Roundhead.
(Found on rotting conifer logs, dull reddish brown cap, very viscid when wet, white veilar remnants at cap margin, strongly fibrillose stipe).
But that one is very rare & on Red data list. - I suppose finding two red data list fungi in one weekend would have been too much to ask for. - I think S.aurantiaca is the better bet.

Very tall stems for Stropharia aurantiaca. Comparing Mike's photos with my photo libary (I know comparing photos is a dangerous thing to do), it does closley resemble some photos I have of Hypholoma marginata. Is this possible?
A spore print would help
Pete

Pete | Hypholoma marginata is a good shout Pete and worthy of serious consideration.
My reasoning is based on the red staining of the stipe in images 2 and 3 being typical in Stropharia aurantiaca. But this could well be a trick of the light!

That was indeed my initial thought.
This is what I wrote yesterday when I posted the first photo here: - For ID & Confirmation Please.
"Originally thought possibly a young Snakeskin Brownie - Hypholoma marginatum, but the cap seems to be too red...."
I can't decide between the two now.
Regards,
Mike. EDIT - Having just browsed for more images/info, and unless anyone can add to this, I'm going back to my original thoughts. I'm now reasonably happy that it is Snakeskin Brownie - Hypholoma marginatum.

| | | Re: Another try for this one (ID Help) I did post my suggestion of H. marginatum shortly after the thread was posted, but this persistent and unresolved problem with WAB prevented submission. Typical | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
