| | | Re: ID help again, please! With a ring like that, pure white tones throughout and a sac-like volva, Amanita virosa is my only suggestion. There's some slight colouration on the cap, but I think it may be irrelevant. That's a nice find whatever it be! |

I was thinking about the colouring atop the pileus, it's odd. A. virosa is renowned for its complete ice-white fruiting body. The other Amanita that appears this white is A. phalloides var. alba which David (Cybershot) and I found a while back in Hampshire. I cannot recall if it had an iota of pigment showing though! |

| | | Re: ID help again, please! True. There was discolouration on the cap, this is why i was not 100% sure. But it is a very nice looking fungi and it was pure white apart from this. So many variants to this identification of fungi, i can't cope!!

| | | Re: ID help again, please! A lovely specimen, and as always a lot of ifs and buts when dealing with these pure white Amanitas. Don't be discouraged; someone will come along with an answer (I hope)

| | | Re: ID help again, please! Do I see grooves on the ring? If so this is Amanita citrina var alba.
Still a nice species and image(s) though Tim.

Well A. citrina and A. citrina var. alba have a basal bulb with a trough around the stipe, not a loose sac-like volva like this exhibits. It might be A. citrina var. alba as you suggest mate, but I've never seen it with that loose a volval bag | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
