Went out for a stroll today in the forest and came across a few tasty patches of Amethyst Deceivers. We picked them and got them home but realised we didn't know the best way to cook them. Anyone have any ideas or serving suggestions?

| | | Re: Cooking The Amethyst Deceiver I had them fried for breakfast. They were not too bad but i'm thinking they would be better for flavouring in other dishes due to the woody taste. We had parasols fried in garlic and butter which was good.I also fried the prince in butter and it was possibly the best mushroom i have tasted to this day. I'm liking this mushroom lark!

I see your from Norwich. I lived there 5 yrs and was at UEA from...... 79-82. Showing my age there!!!
As for your L. Amethystina I find quite a lot. Inever found enough to make a dish on their own and usually bung them in with other small mushies in sauce with meat. I really like their crunchy texture.
You've got to cut off the stalk (sorry stipe) as a previous post pointed out.
Do you come across L. Laccata? Same thing but salmony colour. |

| | | Re: Cooking The Amethyst Deceiver Yeah, i do find quite a few deceivers around here. Both the salmon (laccata) and the Amethyst ( Amethystea) grow nearby. Good to know someone has been to Norwich! I'm at the city college currently.

I found a few on Friday. Two beauties that hadn't been touched by slugs but inside.................!!!!!!! Magots every where.
