Bolete - turns red when cut

Found these two specimen growing close together under Beech trees, sandy soil.







When cut the stipe turn red. No sign of bluing on cut or bruising.
The only reference I can come up with for a bolete turning red is for Leccinum nigrescens.

I think this is Xerocomus porosporus. The dirty cracked cap and the red/red brown stem flesh is quite normal. Although yours is a much brighter red than I have seen. It would be more in keeping with Xerocomus chrysenteron according to A Hills ideas.

again Les - a specimen would be useful . . . .a spore print on a piece of card and porosporus - which I agree is a strong possiblity - could be confirmed
