I think it is either: -
The Blusher - Amanita rubescens, Grey Spotted Amanita - Amanita excelsa var. spissa, or Panthercap - Amanita pantherina.
Regards,
Mike. EDIT - Nick beat me to it Oh well, at least I had the answer as one of my suggestions |

It may be blushing on the stipe, the squamules atop the pileus or the margins. This specimen has a chocolate brown cap which I would say is a little dark to be A. rubescens- more like that of A. pantherina However A. pantherina has pure ice white squamules and stipe, and these are distinctively grey.
Tadaarrrrrr
Watch me be wrong
EDIT: To add, cap striations are generally more noticable in A. pantherina, similar to that of A. fulva/vaginata |

| | | Re: Amanita sp. ID please Thanks Nick and Lancashire Lad. At the time I took the photo I thought it was a panther cap, then I later realised the stipe wasn't white so thought it must be another species and wasn't sure which. I was pretty sure it wasn't a blusher even though I know they can be quite variable because it didn't look like any blushers I'd seen before. I think I have another couple of Amanita photos I'm unsure of so I'll try to find them and see what the team thinks. |
