| | Fungi in North Cumbria Hi
This is my first ever post here. Does anyone know good places to see fungi in north Cumbria? I know of a few but I can't help feeling I might be missing some good places and I don't know anyone (except me) who likes fungi.
Thanks |

| | | Re: Fungi in North Cumbria Hi Trio, and welcome to WAB.
I'm not too familiar with good fungi locations in North Cumbria, but have you considered joining Cumbria Wildlife Trust, or a local natural history society?
Membership of CWT will give you access to a good number of woodland (and other types of) nature reserves, many of which should be good for fungi habitat. The Wildlife Trust staff should also be able to give you some good advice on suitable locations.
CWT are holding a fungi foray on Saturday 10th October, at Cliburn Moss National Nature Reserve near Penrith (details on the CWT website).
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Fungi in North Cumbria Thanks for the welcome and the info Mike. I have just joined CWT but haven't been to any meetings yet. Unfortunately I can't go to the fungal foray at Cliburn in October but I thought I might try to visit the reserve myself before then. There are lots of fungi around up here in Cumbria already - lots of Blushers, as noted by other forum members, and some other Amanitas, Boletes, Russulas and more. There are a lot of mature trees where I work and I counted at least 10 different fungal species under the trees earlier this month.
I have a photo of an Amanita and I'm not certain of the species but I don't think I can post photos can I? Or can I post them if I upload them to the Gallery first? |

(WAB's rules do not allow external images).
Uploading to the Gallery requires strict adherance to the naming etc. of any proposed upload photo, but the Image Library is where photos for identification or general forum use are uploaded.
If you carefully follow the instructions on this thread, you should be able to upload without problems. (Note the thread was written before some header changes, and the Gallery tab is now above WAB's header logo). http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...otos-info.html

Well I am new to these forums & only moved into Cumbria a month before the dreadfull floods but would not want to live anywhere else.
I have always found Fungi fascinating, and will search Cumbria for good locations to find them, so if anyone can help please yell.
These forums are a really interesting place and will keep an eye out for any Fungi forays.

Welcome to Cumbria and WAB.
As well as Cumbria Wildlife Trust there's the venerable Carlisle Natural History Society, link here Carlisle Natural History Society | Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery
I see that there's no fungus forays on their summer programme for 2010 but there are several fungi fanatics in the society and they have been on faorays in previous years including one to a forest that's featured in the programme for another reason.
Have fun. |

Thanks for the info, I am a member of Cumbria Wildlife trust but it's the first I have heard of the Carlisle Natural History Society, will investigate.
Still finding my feet, new job & in a rented house but do intend to be more active in clubs and making new acquaintances.
Am also looking for local photographic club !
