That's what's so marvelous about WAB, there is always someone to pick the bones out of lengthy, mind boggling, academic studies on taxonomy and present it in readable posts on threads like this. Thanks one and all; it's fascinating reading at the end of the day.

what can i say the ever shifting sand known as taxonomy is hard to get a handle on but its getting a bit clearer......ok maybe not

having looked up G. fusipes i've noticed the splitting of the stem being a commonish feature in more mature fruitbodies, is this a blind alley indicator for Gymnopus' ?
