Typically if it where sun bleached i'd expect to see a cracked and some-what dried appearance to the mushroom, also when the sun gets to the cap it tends to bleach one part more then the other. |

After July i'm happy to enjoy this weather a bit longer and mushroom season can stay on hold for a couple more weeks |

| | | Re: Fungi for Identification please. A couple of weeks ago I collected a very similar looking mushroom to number 2.
I took it home, thinking it might be an amanita crocea - orange grisette, but the one pic I had showed an orange stem as well as cap. However the entry here in WAB shows a white stem and reasonable match for what I collected. Might that not be what number 2 here is?
I recognize washed-out a. muscaria is a possibility, but am doubtful in the case of my specimen for the following reasons: - length of stem - not seen in other local muscaria
- no apparent ring - but specimen is young
- growing by itself in an area where muscaria have not previously been seen
- other local muscaria did not show a washed-out look
On the con side, my specimen: - does not show a volva
- has a smoother stem than a. crocea is supposed to have
So, I'm undecided, but I think a. crocea is a reasonable possibility. |
