| | | Unidentified bolete Would like to know what type of Bolete this is. I found it on the edge of woodland, unfortunately the slugs got there first! |

| | | Re: Unidentified bolete hello daver,
From what you have said and the info in the images i'm leaning towards Boletus edulis it has the features that one could expect but more importantly i guess is the lack of some features that you would find with some of the lookalikes
quick explanation of my thoughts B. aestivalis summer bolete starts fruiting in may/june but without removing the stem from the cap to look for a reddening- in my mind the second most likely choice Tylopilus fellus the bitter bolete looks similar but apparently grows almost exclusively on sandy soils under pines and bruises easily with pink flushes when you press into it or it gets eaten.
A more informed member will probably blow that all out of the water now an nail an i'd instantly
If it is a cep go back now and again over the next few week and you may find a better specimen.

| | | Re: Unidentified bolete Thanks very much Alex. I thought it could be a cep, but have not see one with non-white stem before. I will definitely be checking the area for more over the next few weeks! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
