| | | Agaricus ID
Getting nowhere with this.
Growing in deep leaf litter under Beech on Limestone
Cap: up to 70mm
Smell: of Bitter Almond
Flesh: unchanging when bruised or cut
Spores small: 5.1-6.3µ x 3.7-4.0µ
Any hints?
Thanks

I think this could be Agaricus prophyrizon. Not one I have seen but it fits fairly well with the description in B&K

Mal | That is also the one that Funga Nordica keys out to, so it looks like a good candidate .... only spelt slightly differently A porphyrrhizon. ... Was the cap fairly pinkish? Here is one reliable photo on the internet Agaricus porphyrizon.
And also one from someone on here (Andreas ) who should certainly be able to tell you yeh or ney .... Mushroom Observer: Name: Agaricus porphyrizon

| | | Re: Agaricus ID From the image you've supplied Mel, Agaricus porphyrizon looks like it bruises yellow. Rob's was "unchanging when bruised or cut" |

Thanks for the help - I had a look at A. porphyrhizon but rejected it because I couldn't pick up any yellowing on bruising and there didn't seem to be any pinkish hue on the cap - but that's where the keys kept sending me?

Some of the yellow stainers really do stain/bruise yellow and very quickly too, and ones that aren't considered yellow stainers do go yellowish to a certain degree. So maybe it is a distinction between degrees of yellowing ? Do you have FAN 5? That should have additional micro details which may be of use to help reject or confirm it. I don't have that volume, otherwise I'd look it up for you. However I noticed that various comments in FN suggest that the genus is in need of further study which is maybe why you haven't reached an id that is satisfyingly convincing .....
