No, not the honey fungus but Dryad's Saddle - Polyporus squamosus.

| | | Re: Fungi for indetification please Im going to be wild and suggest Tapinella atrotomentosa. The form of the specimens suggests to me that this is not a Polypore, especially the right hand specimen. I'd expect a darker cap and more prominent squamules too- even in immaturity.
Can you monitor it? Only so John can rub my face in it when he's right

A shot from the underside would clinch it and I'm not sure the stump is pine for T. atrotomentosa ... but we shall see

| | | Re: Fungi for indetification please if we're talking undersides, I'm betting there are sori of the rust Phragmidium violaceum on those Rubus fruticosus leaves

John | I would imagine the stump is of a Pine as there are a few saplings around the area, but most have been cut down, thinking about it there are not many mature pines in the near vicinity, only oak and other broad leafed trees and they are probably 200 mtrs away if not further.

Can you revisit the site Beekeeper? | Yes, quite esily Nick so if you need further info will do my best to get it for you, by the way, when i took that shot it was in very bright sunlight conditions so maybe the top of the fungi looks slightly lighter than it really is, had i reduced the exposure i would have lost the other detail.

If you would be so kind to get a shot underneath so we can establish if this has pores or gills, that would be amazing | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
