| | | Threads hello all
is there some way of reorganising posts so that themes are brought together?
for example in recent weeks there have been lots of really useful posts and comments about Amanita, Russula, Boletus (in the broad sense), brackets etc. and they just disappear down the long list of threads and then new posts come in asking what is this? bypassing the information already posted
I have learned a lot, but re-finding previous info is difficult and the A to Z doesn't usually include all the useful, anecdotal, tips and hints
if someone finds something on dung there is a thread for that and that ties in with other, similar finds
it may be impossible to capture the useful stuff, but it would be invaluable if there were a way (then again, I would not wish to be the one who attempted to separate the "wheat from the chaff" )
I find the Google search box to be a bit of a blunt instrument . . .
comments welcome
best wishes to all WABbers
Chris

| | | Re: Threads Hello Chris et al
It really is a big problem and not an easy one to work around.
There's such a lot of extremely useful information within the forum(s) and quite often, very important ... not in any book ... material gets lost in the background.
I've considered ways of 'grouping' material, menus and how we could navigate easily but it is quite difficult given the constraints of the type of site we have.
We are fast becoming a 'better', 'Real' Fungi Resource!
I'm open to any ideas if I can help as a Mod and I'm sure Stu will help if it is possible.. and cheap to introduce

| | | Re: Threads There was a time when a small handful of volunteer editors spent long hours sifting through current threads extracting jewels of information scattered amongst the forum treasure trove by the likes of Nick Legon, Ken Burgess et al, and transferring them to 'Notes' within A to Z entries. But this method only mined a small fraction of that rich seam.
It would be very useful if our present day batch of experts, and anyone else with a gem or two, could be encouraged to add to/edit those 'Notes' if and when they deemed it relevant. In many cases it only involved a quick copy and paste operation to effect transfer of the salient points from Forum to Reference (I'm not sure about the expediency the current editing facility). But as Chris rightly points out it is not always easy to extract just the essential material thus preventing the A to Z entries being over-'loded' with ore rather than nuggets.

| | | Re: Threads I dont know about the technicalities, but would it be possible to put some sort of flag on posts that have what are considered valuable information. Something that could be searched on like {info:amanitaxexe - then you would only bring up those posts and not a whole lot of irelevant stuff. That might be faster than having to cut/paste or type into a reference section. |

I would be more than willing to help David but the problem I see is that what could be a "nugget" of information for a fungi beginner like myself would be "ore" to the likes of yourself and other more experienced members. I think a small group of experienced members would be the way to go.
