| | | Unidentified Large Orange Waxcaps Found several groups of these today in deep grass beside a moorland track.
Cap sizes up to 50mm across, stipe heights similar.
No blackening after handling, and they also don't look like H.persistens to me.
Any thoughts on ID would be appreciated.
Regards,
Mike.

| | | Re: Unidentified Large Orange Waxcaps Seem too large for Hygrocybe miniata, yet they're the only species I can think of with this exact colour. I think Hygrocybe punicea has a much more red pigment.
Gminder to the rescue, methinks again... |

| | | Re: Unidentified Large Orange Waxcaps Hi Nick,
These are much bigger than any H.miniata I've found to date. They had no sign at all of scurfiness on the caps.
Nearest thing I can find in my books is H. reidii. - that one seems to fit with the colour and the macro features.

Mike. |

| | | Re: Unidentified Large Orange Waxcaps Hello,
exactly that's what I thought looking at the picture: H. reidii. It is the only Hygrocybe which is dry and has uniformely orange colours. Additionally it smells faintly honey-like when beginning to drying.
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: Unidentified Large Orange Waxcaps Thanks once again Andreas.
I'm happy to have had this one identified, it's a very photogenic fungus.
