| | | Unsure of this Cordyceps! Heylo
I was looking in the undergrowth today and I thought "Unlikely place for a Geoglossum!"- then I remember that Mike had the same train of thought a while back. I got closer and saw that they were Cordyceps. I immediately thought they might be Cordyceps ophioglossoides but looking now, I'm not so sure. They appear different in stature- a little less substantial and the the threads of mycelium are bright yellow as opposed to cream/tan.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Unsure of the Elaphomyces too- they were quite damp so if there was marbling, it was disguised by the moisture in the truffle.
Any light that anyone can shed would be greatly appreciated!

I'm tempted to think these are C.ophioglossoides, but just thinner than the ones I found. Some of mine did have quite bright yellow stems, and yours seem to fit the descriptions in Jordan.

| | | Re: Unsure of this Cordyceps! Cheers Mike,
Admittedly I cannot think of any Cordyceps similar in appearance to C. ophioglossoides but thought I'd check. That's a new species for me today then and just a few days after your first find
It's odd how WAB works, I'll now associate C. ophioglossoides with you Mike, because you found them first. Like today, I thought "Mike found these!".
Nice one |

Seriously though, I like finding any new species, but I particularly like these odd-ball types, and also the tiny myxomycetes.

Regards,
Mike. | I think that once you recognise the main common species that you encounter everytime you go out- (you know, the A. rubescens, C. maculata and A. fulva that get seen in numbers every visit to the woods! ) then you know when you've come across something special. I love finding Cortinarius because of the sheer size of the genus- chances are you might have found a special species. I've had some very tasty finds over the past two years and the feeling when you see something you've looked at in books for years but never seen in the flesh is something to remember forever!
Don't you just love mycology! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
