| | | Lepista nuda? Found good numbers of these today.
I'm thinking they are Lepista nuda - Wood Blewit, but would again appreciate confirmation/other.
All had stipes with varying shades and amounts of violet colouration.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Lepista nuda? Definitely a Cortinarius Mike! Beautiful beautiful genus!
I recently suggested Cortinarius stillatitius for an ID request, and I'd say the same about this but I think Andreas might have to help me out a bit! |

| | | Re: Lepista nuda? Hello,
a Cortinarius from the subgenus Myxacium. I think it is Cortinarius elatior.
If it is, it would be edible too (all Myxacium are said to be edible if they are not bitter in taste).
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: Lepista nuda? I wouldn't risk eating a Cortinarius though
At least I got the subgenus right ( C. stillatitius is in Myxacium ) |

| | | Re: Lepista nuda? Thanks Ron & Nick.
Yes - Looking in Phillips, these seem to have all the characteristics of Cortinarius stillatitius.
Regards,
Mike. EDIT - Andreas posted while I was typing
Andreas, are C.elatior common? |

| | | Re: Lepista nuda? Hello,
yes elatior is common. I think it is better called Cortinarius livido-ochraceus nowadays. The striate stipe apex is specific and the cap is bgetting more and more wrinkled with age. It usually is a quite robust and sometimes big species, whereas C. stillatitius is slender. This stillatitius is growing only in coniferous forests, livido-ochraceus also in decidous ones. And stillatitius smells like honey in the stipe base some time after picking - livido-ochraceus does not.
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: Lepista nuda? Thanks again for a detailed reply Andreas.
With what you have said, my find then, can only be C. livido-ochraceous, as it was in deciduous woodland.
Much obliged.
Regards.
