| | | One for ID and Two for Confirmations Please All photographed today: -
No.1 Chanterelle - Cantharellus cibarius.
No.2 Rusty Widow - Lacrymaria pyrotricha.
No.3 Unknown.
Found under Beech, Cap about 75mm across, stipe about same in length. Smelled faintly of almonds. (NB: the cap is glistening because it was wet after recent shower).
As usual, any help with ID's confirmations greatly appreciated.
Regards
Mike. |

The one you're after an ID for is a Russula, though which, I have no clue. |

| | | Re: One for ID and Two for Confirmations Please Hello,
your last one is Russula grata, if it really smelled like almonds. Otherwise foetens/subfoetens.
The whole group of fotens and related species is easyly recognized for their yellowbrownish colour, the striate cap margin, a stipe with several cavities inside and a strong smell (pleasant or not, but always strong). All are VERY acrid and all have a slimy cap when moist.
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: One for ID and Two for Confirmations Please Thanks Nick & Andreas - much appreciated.
Nick - I'm pretty certain it is Lacrymaria pyrotricha, as a life long fungi hunter who knows the this woodland like the back of his hand has confirmed the particular site is well known for L.pyrotricha.
Andreas - Yes it definitely smelled of almonds, and the very same fungi hunting gent said to to me today, that he thought my unidentified Russula was R.grata. - Great minds think alike.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: One for ID and Two for Confirmations Please This must be quite an overlooked fungus, as very few books give it a mention. (It is in Marcel Bon and also gets a quick mention in Blacks Nature Guide by Andreas Gminder)
