Mal | I can see what you mean, Mal, because there is something about the cap that looks distinctly Lactarius like, but for me the gills definitely suggest Paxillus, nevertheless. |

I would go with Paxillus too- the edge of the pileus has a distinctive texture/pattern which in my experience only P. involutus exhibits. |
