| | | Giant Puffball Anyone got any recipe suggestions: [
Is it in good condition?
It weighs 2.4kg and is about 45cm across. Meal for 20, I guess.... |

Jim | It looks pretty bright white - see the second photo. |

| | | Re: Giant Puffball It's definitely edible, a bit on the watery side though, I think it's better to find a smaller, denser specimen. |

| | | Re: Giant Puffball In slice form-cut to around 1cm thick, in a pan i always flash fry a little bacon in olive oil or seasoned butter first then and the puffball slice season with black pepper and off you go.
whole- do a huge furywhitlingstick number on it and cut the top off and scoop out the inner leaving the walls around 1.5cm thick and stuff with lamb mince and other goodies brush egg yolk around the rim and replace the lid, bake in the middle of the oven at around 180 for an hour or so depending on puffball size and your oven. im sure you find a good stuffed puffball recipe on the web.
if all else fails it is the best soup stock filler going, add to any mushroom soup and blitz it to fill out your bowl.
always improved by the flavour of well smoked bacon yum yum (like most things in life)

| | | Re: Giant Puffball making soup at the moment - potatoes, sweet potatoes, onion, puffball, garlic, marigold powder. Would prefer chicken stock + bacon, but we're all out of those
May add some chili sauce |

| | | Re: Giant Puffball Is it possible, do you think, to spore the mushroom somewhere?
I was thinking of dumping the remains of it in a nearby field. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
