| | chicken on Birch? Hello all,
I assume this might be chicken of the woods, Laetiporus sulphureus, at a late creamy coloured drying out stage, but would like confirmation please, ta.
EDIT - On the other hand, it could well be Giant Polypore............, now my best bet cos of long tubes and bruising dark! silly me!
interesting too, that it was growing at the foot of silver birch, not oak etc, right next to the brown roll rims of tuesday. Missed it then, distracted by grandson!
Plus an interesting watch developments bracket, oozing droplets, hidden in a dark tree recess. Theres a name for the oozing, but its gone out of my head, starts with a G? Help?
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: chicken on Birch? Hi,
it would also suggest Giant Polypore and am pretty certain of that. The host - Betula - is quite unusual, but has been reported in Germany as well.
best regards,
Andreas

Ken | Hello ken,
the two are sometimes not so easy to separate, but when you dry them, the Giant Polypore becomes totally black allover - not the Laetiporus.
best regards,
Andreas
