| | | Id help please... sorry, no photos. I am trying to ID a fungus that is growing on an apple tree in a small orchard. It is a bracket fungus, orangey beige in colour, approx 15 - 20 cm across. The underside of the fungus is dripping a (seemingly - I didnt touch it!) thick clear amber liquid which is turning the grass beneath it black.
Any ideas on what it might be would be appreciated!
Another question - would you expect this type of fungus to grow on a young tree (less than 30 years old)?
Thanks!!

It could possibly be be Inonotus hispidus.

Inonotus hispidus grows on Malus (and Fraxinus) so I am sure that is what you have. It is Saprotrophic or weakly parasitic so it is not a death warrant for your apple.
Mal
Ps a photo would confirm it |
