| | | Todays Finds - ID Help Needed Please All found today in predominantly Oak/Beech/Birch woodland: -
No.1
Growing directly from soil on stream bank.
Cap size about 40mm, stipe height about 75mm.
No.2
Growing in soil.
Stipe height about 140mm, cap diameter about 25mm.
Could this perhaps be a rather tired looking Ghost Bolete - Leccinum holopus?
No.3
Growing in soil.
Stipe height about 150mm, Cap diameter about 60mm.
An Amanita with volva, solid mass of veilar remnant on top of cap, & scurfy stipe, but no sign of a ring. Could this possibly be Amanita cecilae (Snakeskin Grisette) ?
No.4 Growing directly in soil.
Some sort of earthtongue, possibly a Geoglossum species?
These were flatter than they look on the photos, and the insides were entirely deep yellowish brown. (They do look a little like Xylaria polymorpha on the photos, but are definitely not that).
No.5 On a rotting cap of an unknown fungus.
Very small - maybe 3mm diameter.
Not even sure if these are fungal. or something else entirely EDIT No.6
Newly emerging Boletes, growing directly in soil.
About 30mm tall and 15mm across.
Any opinions/ID's on the above much appreciated.
Regards,
Mike

| | | Re: Todays Finds - ID Help Needed Please Hello Mike,
the first is an Entoloma and it looks like one of the rhodopolium-group. No chance of further identification macroscopically. If I should guess I would ask if there are also willows and would think of E. sericatum.
2nd may be, but I can't say more.
3rd one is very interesting and I loved to have that in my hands. The greying volva, which is obviousely quite fragile is typicall for Amanita submembranacea. But neither the cap colour nor the biotops suites. So I'm sure this is one I have not seen before and I can give you no name for it. It is for sure not A. ceciliae.
4th is Cordyceps óphioglossoides. They paratise on Elaphomyces granulatus or muricatus. You can burry down and you will find the dear truffles there.
no. 5 looks like eggs to me, may be from some insect.
6th is Boletus erythropus.
best regards,
Andreas

I'm very interested in the explanation for Cordyceps óphioglossoides, and will try to return to the site and, (if I can possibly manage to do it), dig up a complete parasitised fungus with the Cordyceps attached.
Best regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Todays Finds - ID Help Needed Please Hello Mike,
you have to dig carefully, because the Cordyceps ophioglossoides is connected only by its mycelial cords with the Elaphomyces. Easier it is with Cordyceps capitata agg., which sits directly on the host and are therefore easier to undig.
best regards,
Andreas
