| | | Amanita for ID please... Hello All!
Could anyone help me with ID of this little one please?
Found with beech and oak, cap 5cm, stem 8cm. Smells faintly of tobacco (maybe )
.
I'm leaning towards A.pantherina, but something's not quite right...it just doesn't seem substantial enough
Cheers, Nick. |

| | | Re: Amanita for ID please... I must admit, this looks more like A. pantherina than any other similar Amanita posted this week. Cap striations seem pretty distinctive... |

| | | Re: Amanita for ID please... Hello,
it is pantherina, no doubt at all.
This species very often is slender, escpecially the one growing in braod leaf forest. The one in mountainous spruce forest (var. abietina) are more robust usually (and lack the striate cap margin!!).
best regards,
Andreas

To be honest this is my first A.pantherina, I've found plenty of others (A.citrina, A.rubescens etc) in the same wood, and I'm suprised that this specimen is so delicate- I was just expecting something a little chunkier for some reason. (although I don't want to sound disappointed - been hoping to find one of these for a while )
