Funghi on fallen tree id please
I found this today on a fallen tree in Bishop Auckland castle grounds. I would love an id please !

looks very much like " Chicken of the woods" - Laetiporus sulphureus, and a nice specimen too

I thing it looks like Meripilus giganteus.
If so, it should become black when drying it.

I am certain it is the giant polypore merripilus, even more so if the root plate was the failure of the tree as merrripilus is a root decay pathogen of the highest category, i am very interested in the state of this tree the species etc as merripilus is as yet not well documented on trees other than fagus/beech
