| | | Russula I found a Russula a few days ago under tilia
I almost ignored it as another R ochreleuca but it was a bit dark so collected it.
Peeled half way tasted mild but then the chemical tests
Guaiac quickly blue/green FeSO4 quickly dark GREEN (fading to almost black).
It has now been confirmed as R pseudo-olivascens (previously R R. xerampelina var. elaeodes)

| | | Re: Russula Hello,
interesting one!
We just finished a Russula/Lactarius seminar, which run from 3rd to 7th august. 5 days only Russula and Lactarius, we had 55 species of Russula and over 20 Lactarii.
The fish-smelling Russulae, which all react green on FeSO4, are a nearly undeterminable group at the time being and there will be a monograph in 2010 (we hope at least ...) by the german Werner JURKEIT. We all look forward to it, because really it a mess in this group. Your taxon refers to the articles of KÄRCHER, I suppose, but not all this will be accepted by JURKEIT. So trouble is programm, I fear ......
just from looking at the pciture I would have guessed it's R. cicatricata. So much for identifying Russula by pictures ....
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: Russula Hello,
JURKEIT described a new Griseinae last year or in 2007: Russula columbicolor. It looks very similar to ionochlora, but has spores with more connections between the warts. Also it has usually a blue-greenish zone in the cap. It occurs parks under Quercus and Tilia.
Have a look, I'm sure it occures in England too, because it is not rare her. Only overlooked, or better misinterpreted.
And there is another Griseinae in the park, yet undiscribed, which has the microscopical charachters of parazurea, but macroscopically always lacks the pruine of parazurea and further has dark brownish-olive colours. Keep an eye on those Griseinae, there are more then one should think
best regards,
Andreas
