| | | Re: Amanita pantherina, poisonous or not ? Hello,
ibotenic acid can cause a bag ful of symptoms, one of which is a hallúcinogenic symtomatic. Usually the people get overexcited, to furious, after some time very tired and they sleep for exceptionally long time (15 hours or so). When they awake all symptomes are gone and the people usually have no recognition to their symptomes.
best regards,
Andreas

First the question, if our european Amanita pantherina is poisonous. The answer is a clear and unmistakable "yes". In Eastern Germany (the former GDR), statistics of mushroom poisonings have been published for many years. Ten poisonings with A. pantherina are a multiple more than all other mushroom poisonings together. Deaths are not recorder, as far as I remember.
best regards,
Andreas | Well of course it is poisonous, alcohol is a poison too. The point being is just because there have been recordings of "poisonings" which could be from the slightest of effects from this mushroom... to full blown delirious hallucinations..... but as you say no fatalities stated.
As nick has pointed out the unclarity is in the definition of poison with regards to this mushroom. |

| | | Re: Amanita pantherina, poisonous or not ? from all the replies above, the general consensus seems to be that it is poisonous to some degree, lethal or otherwise,
it would seem that a slight edit of the A to Z description of Amanita pantherina is needed to clarify things, if only for safetys sake,
although i cant imagine any wabbers wanting to consume any
