Silver Birch fungal disease

My 30+ year old silver birch has developed a fungal disease as has nearby plants. The plants can be sprayed, however, can anyone advise on what I can do for the tree as I really would not wish to lose it.

it seems unlikely that a single type of fungus fungus would attack a range of different plant species

what are the 'nearby plants?' and how does the attack manifest itself on the birch tree?

some photo's would help

Thank you for your reply. I have posted some images below from the library. The tree looks autumnal but there is no sign or smell of decay, the bark looks dry, cracked in places and unhealthy but no sign of bleeding. The affected plants are only 2 yds away and look as if they are suffering from the same as the tree. A number of plants have since died; I have dug them up and treated what is only partially affected.
