| | | Boletus Luridus? I'm fairly confident of my ID here of Lurid Bolete - Boletus Luridus ( a first for me) but I'd appreciate some confirmation as I'm planning on cooking and tasting a small sample.
I peeled back the area on pores to reveal a red area under the cap.
cap is 80mm dia stem 90mm long
Note the net on the stem.
Smell faint mushroomy.
Any comments welcomed.
Thanks |

| | | Re: Boletus Luridus? Species luridus, when cut, the flesh above the yellow tubes momentarily shows a thin red line, but blueing almost immediately. You have to be quick to observe it.
Hope this helps

I can't find any WAB images that show it and my samples aren't very fresh anymore so I hope the powers that be will allow these links to photos showing the red layer under the pores.. B. Luridus photo1 B. Luridus photo2
Is that a diagnostic feature of B. Luridus? |

| | | Re: Boletus Luridus? Cutting downwards from the top of the cap, in sp. luridus the thin red line would appear immediately above the top of the yellow tubes and immediately below the flesh of the cap (the flesh of the cap should be whitish).
For Boletus with yellow tubes and red/orange pores and a reticulum on the stipe, the red line is a diagnostic feature for this species.
If there is no red line then you can rule out species luridus.
Hope that helps | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
