| | | Wood Hedgehog and an Unknown Oysterling Found today: -
Pretty certain this is Wood Hedhehog - Hydnum repandum.
But this one has me stumped. Possibly a Crepidotus? - but I havent seen one with this pale creamy yellowish colouring previously, nor the web-like mycelial strands attaching the fruitbodies to the twig.
Any help towards ID gratefully received.
Regards,
Mike. |

This is an easy one to identify in the field when you get your eye in, but you can also tell if you pick a bracket and gently stretch it to pull it apart. Unlike other species of Crepidotus which will just fall apart, Crepidotus mollis has a stretchy gelatinous pellicle. |

| | | Re: Wood Hedgehog and an Unknown Oysterling Hello,
to demonstrate what Manwithnoname means with stretchy cap cuticule, my wife made a drawing for our book.
Similar gelatinouse cuticules can be found in Mycena epipterygia and some Psilocybe species.
best regards,
Andreas

other 'crepidotoid' genera which have a gelatinous layer in the cap (but deeper within it) are Resupinatus and Hohenbuehelia

| | | Re: Wood Hedgehog and an Unknown Oysterling Thanks guys.
If these Crepidotus are still around next time I visit the location, I will certainly try that little trick. (and hopefully get some better photo's as well).
