Nasty stuff, but very useful for us poor migraine sufferers. Suitably utilized I mean.

| | | Re: Ergot? did you know one of the Mongol Horse tribes used to brew a beer using about a kilo of Ergot infected grain, mixed with other grains of course! They got slaughtered by Ghengis Khan as they would not join up with him and if you were with him, you were with him, if not, you were dead. Dunno If I'd fancy a pint o' that, 'ho, landlord, a drop of your finest ale....why are there little green elephants walking around out there?' |

h | My knowledge of grasses doesn't go much beyond wheat, rye and barley, but it might be Tall Oat Grass ( Arrhenatherum elatius). I didn't know it was used in migraine medication, amazing what you learn here .
Steve
" They got slaughtered by Ghengis Khan" sounds like they probably 'got slaughtered' all by themselves

Chris PS check out Fungal Plant Parasites thread . . . . | Not to mention possible (though controversial) connection to the Salem Witch Trials hysteria (and to witchcraft stories in general) and I seem to recall hearing that one of the preserved 'bog men' had been given a last, possibly ritualistic, meal containing large amounts of ergotised (is that a word?) grain.
This is the same grass species if it helps,
Steve
PS Bog body is Grauballe man
