| | | My Favourite Forage Just had the best days forage outside of autumn I've ever known!
Summer Ceps, Larch Boletes, few kilos of Oysters, Red and Yellow Cracked Boletes and a Boletus Erythropus (my first!)
It's only really this year that I've become anything but an autumnal weekend forager. Is this bounty normal for July up in the frozen north of the Peak District? I'd always imagined slim pickings in the summer.
I'd be interested to hear what species others are finding at the moment, maybe then I could concentrate my forays in better areas. |

I foray all year round and I'm often surprised what turns up.
Yes, autumn months usually bear the main crop but other parts of the year are often under recorded due to many waiting for autumn.
A look in the fungi Gallery (dates) will give a good idea what to expect.
Happy summer hunting!

| | | Re: My Favourite Forage Yesterday as I was leaving Minley Wood after walking the dogs a chance encounter with Pete, a fellow Mushketeer, led to an extended outing and, with an extra pair of eyes scanning the ground, an increase in the species count from 3 to around ten. Not expecting much neither of us had sallied forth with a camera so no photos of the various LBJs and Entoloma, Psathyrella, Lepista, Panaeolus, Parasola and Suillus species or the 170gm of choice young Oysters collected for my supper; one of three outcrops on an old gorse trunk found en-route home near the ElyInn on Yateley Common CP.
So the recent wet spell has paid dividends, and with this in mind JP and I have planned a Wednesday Club foray next Wednesday 29 July at Morgaston Wood, near Basingstoke.
See you there if you're nearby and fancy a stroll round in pleasant surroundings and good company.
Cheers
David
