| | | White asco on ash at Anston Stones Wood Hello all
On a foray with Nettle Runner Les at Anston Stones Wood on 19th July 2009 we came across this interesting little asco on (possibly) a ash twig.
Open cap size approximately 3.0mm
Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers

Regards,
Mike. | I see where you are coming from Mike. A good shout too.
If it had been Crocicreas coronatum it would have been so much easier!

Are you sure this was an ascomycete? It looks a lot like Calyptella capula which is a basidiomycete easily mistaken for a discomycete.
Check out the photos on the front cover and page 7 of the latest edition of The Forayer (ABFG magazine). The unidentified specimens are also Calyptella capula. |

absolutely correct, this is a basidiomycete and not an asco.
I also thought immediately ta Calyptella capula, but those Calyptella don't occure on wood, do they? So may be another cyphelloid, but a basidiomycete it is for sure!
best regards,
Andreas
