Just back in from a night walk in the local woods, found this site by researching the same glowing phenomenon I saw in three separate places, the first I've walked past a number of times and never really thought to look into, its a perfect glowing yellow circle with a bull's eye in the centre on the side of a tree. naturally I assumed this was some glow paint or marker paint until earlier tonight I saw the same glowing colour on a log on the forest floor. I picked it up of course for comparison and even saw yet another glowing circle on the way back, this time on a stump sticking up through the ground. Did figure it was some sort of fungus but its still fascinating stuff. Any idea why that one was a perfect circle with a dot in the centre? Its slap bang on the side of the trunk, whereas the others were circular because the glowing area was the cross section of a branch. I was thinking along the lines of toad-stool rings you get sometimes, same sort of thing?
