| | | Ganoderma applanatum? I found this today, and am thinking it is Ganoderma applanatum.
However, Jordan p95, states that G.applanatum can be confused with G.adspersum, but that has much thicker flesh.
The question is, how thick is thick? what would be the yardstick? On the basis of the photo, which of the two would be most likely?
Any opinions gratefully received.
Regards,
Mike. |

| | | Re: Ganoderma applanatum? this is when microscopy is so useful - collect a little bit of that moss underneath - it will be covered in spores - check spore size and bingo!
but that doesn't really help you I know

| | | Re: Ganoderma applanatum? G.applanatum often affected by insect galls, but G.adspersum never affected by insect galls.
However, this will only help if you do find galls on them. But then you can set your yardstick.

| | | Re: Ganoderma applanatum? Thanks guys, I'll just have to put it down as Ganoderma sp.
There are quite a lot of these in this wood, but I haven't seen any with insect galls, so that might be an indicator towards G.adspersum. (Which if i'm correct is also the more common of the two).
