| | | Trametes versicolor ?
My local woods have udergone a lot of clearance work in the last year or two and nearly every stump and branch is covered in small brackets in numerous shapes, sizes and colours and they are usually dismissed as Trametes versicolor without a second glance.
This small bracket caught my eye and looked to be a bit different to the rest.
It was growing on a fallen Birch or Beech branch of approx.4" dia. The fruiting bodies ranged from 1-2cm across and projected 1cm. The pore surface was a yellowish/brown.
Is this yet another form of versicolor?
Views and opinions would be welcomed.
Gerry

| | | Re: Trametes versicolor ? Hi Deer Stalker
Checked the reference books and I would say you are spot on with Stereum hirsutum.
Interestingly Stereum hirsutum goes under the common name 'False Turkey Tail' which probably explains some of the confusion with Trametes versicolor.
Thanks
