| | | Large(ish) Orange Mushroom for ID Help Found a couple of these today, growing amongst grass, directly in wet clay soil.
Thought that with the distinctive colouration, I might be in with a chance of ID'ing, but it seems to be showing chracteristics of some of the Hygrocybe's and of the Cortinarius (Probably wrong on both counts ).
The top of the cap looked slightly damaged, as though it might otherwise possibly have had an umbo
Cap size about 50mm diameter, stipe height similar.
Stipe broke away very easily, and was hollow.
Stipe flesh rapidly blackening along its entire insides when bisected.
Any pointers towards ID, as usual, gratefully accepted.
Regards

Looks like a good call to me, and was one of several that I had considered without making a full commit to naming. (probably the blackening stipe is the clincher though?).
Thanks for the ID - much appreciated.

| correct! And blackening of the gills too, which you can see in your photos. Cap usually blackens in places also. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
