| | | ID black-capped fungsu please
Can anyone name this? I can't find it in the Gallery or in my book.
Cap diameter is 30-40mm Actually, it appears square because it is split inti 4 lobes.
The thin layer of flesh under the cap is bright yellow when freshly broken, soon becoming black. |

From the picture and the details provided a strong possibility is Hygrocybe nigrescens.
Cap starts off orange-red blackens with age.Stem starts off yellowish becoming streaked black with age. Cap flesh is yellow.

I have looked at many pics of both the above and can't choose between them, but That's not surprising since there seems to be some general confusion. Both species have several varieties, but at least one source states that H. conica has a subspecies H. pseudoconica sometimes called H. nigrescens. |

| | | Re: ID black-capped fungsu please I heard news that H. conica and H. nigrescens are one of the same now under new classification. Don't know if they have stuck to this but it helps confuse matters - aaaaggghhhh. Sorry. |

| | | Re: ID black-capped fungsu please Well, I shall be mowing the lawn very soon so the poor little thing will never know its name.
Isn't reclassification a pain? I used to know nearly all the epiphytic orchids but now I am back to being a complete beginner. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
