fungi for id please?

Hi,found this fella by a field entrance gate next too some logs on the floor.Can anyone id it please and is it edible ?.

watch out Alantb might be about and he will point out that this is a fungus not a fungi . . .

it appears to have a swollen stem base . . . if there was a sort of bag-like structure there it could be Volvariella gloiocephala (there are other contributors to this forum who know more about these wood-chip 'fellas' than I do - so I stand to be corrected)

I would certainly second the suggestion of V. gloiocephala- the species characterised by both the loose volval bag as Chris mentioned and a distinctive umbonate pileus, as displayed by your image.
