| | | Boletus satanoides? Hi All,
is this Boletus satanoides. Found in north Surrey on acid soils under an oak tree.
Cheers,

I would say this is Boletus luridiformis (erythropus) rather than satanoides(which is now B legaliae).

Mal | I would second that Mal. The cap of B. legaliae is light grey/brown with pinkish tones and not the dark olive brown colour of B. luridiformis ( not seen in the pic provided). It also has a net-like reticulation on the stem, unlike that of what is shown in the picture, which will made up of tiny dots characteristic of the B. luridiformis. I also came across B. luridiformis recently on Hampstead Heath, of the larger Boletes it is one of the earliest to fruit, in my experience anyhow.
