Sorry, mean't to add this with other post.
It's about 1 inch and growing amongst moss (as you can probably see).
Any ideas please, you knowledgable people out there in WAB land.

It reminds me of Mycena pterigena but the substrate .... I'll muse on it for a while.

Sorry John not pteragena with that colour cap and darker gill edges I think M sanguinolenta is more likely.

Did you notice any deep coloured milk from the stipe when picked it and were there conifers about?

I thought about about M. sanguinolenta too but expected more colouration. A shame there's not more cap detail and evidence of exuded milk as you suggest.

Sorry guys, I didn't cut or pick it, I tend to leave 'em as I found 'em ... not good for ID-ing I know. Yes to the conifers, it was on the edge of conifer forest, on a bank, going towards damp, boggy ground.
