| | | Small bright orange coloured mushroom. This morning I came across a rather small brightly orange coloured mushroom. The cap is about 1/4 inch in diameter, the stalk is about 1/2 inch long. I don't how to attach an image to this post. I live in Maryland of the U.S. Does anyone have any idea what specie this may belong to? I sure wish I could post a picture to show you folks.
regards, Steve |

| | | Re: Small bright orange coloured mushroom. Here's some more clue. It resembles the orange mosscap, except the whole mushroom (from the cap to the bottom of the stem) is intensely bright orange (the orange is so bright I swear it fluoresces).

| | | Re: Small bright orange coloured mushroom. Hi stevechu, and welcome to WAB.
Living in the United States, your fungus could possibly be something that we don't get in the UK, so you might not get a definite answer.
My best guess would be something like Hygrocybe miniata: -
But there are probably several other possibilities.

(Link below). - If the images are just for identification or forum use, upload them to the Image Library, as it doesn't have the same restrictions as the Gallery. - There is also information near the bottom of the thread on how to get your images (once uploaded) from the Gallery or Image Library into your posts: - http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...otos-info.html

| | | Re: Small bright orange coloured mushroom. Thanks for the information Mike. After looking at the picture you posted I'm 75% convinced that my mystery mushroom is the Rickenella fibula (aka the orange mosscap). Some of my mushrooms are rounded as in your picture. They are gilled, and intensely coloured as in your picture.
Cheerio for now,
