Is this a fungus?

I have been looking back at some of the photos I have taken this summer, especially those that I have not identified yet. I had completely forgotten about this one which looks like a white fungus on a branch that had fallen off a tree. The photo was taken in May.

Does anyone have any idea what it is? I have looked through the Gallery and have found nothing the same. The closest is cauliflower fungus, but I don't think it is the same.

Its the bracket fungus re-righting itself after the branch it was on came down, so its all the same one, just dont know which one. I see Ganoderma australe do it all the time after the tree its on comes down. It re-grows so the spores still fall downwards.

Oh - I did not realise that was a bracket fungus. I assume you mean the black bit with the lighter coloured edges. That looks a bit like Coriolus versicolor.

So the white stuff is coming from that? Amazing.
