Peziza on Woodchip

[Lancashire Lad]

Found yesterday on a woodchip covered woodland banking.

(Especially for Diggleken & Chris Yeates to mull over )

The second photo shows a much contorted specimen found about 30cm away from the two in the first photo - I think it's the same type of fungus, but am not entirely sure.



I assume they can't be ID'd to species level without microscopy, but as usual, any thoughts appreciated.

Hi Mike, sorry to be tardy!
Peziza coming thick and fast now?
I think you know the crack with these now - but out of interest, doesnt look very granular, but could be an older specimen and lost them a bit with wear. Looks a bit light coloured too for granulosa.
Otherwise, hmmmmm ..............
