Mystery Clump of Fungi

Another mystery ..... for me :-( .... not you :-)

Seen at The Hermitage, Dunkeld in Perthshire in April 2009. Each head about 1.25" across. Many thanks inanticipation. Heather

Looks like an early Hypholoma species. The tapered stem might be significant, but I have no Hypholoma literature to hand so I couldn't go any further. Of course I may be totally wrong anyways

Well ... being the ignoramus I am, I shall just write "from the Hypholoma species - early/Sulphur Toft?" .... better to write that than nothing. Unless I'm enlightened further :-) I'm pleased to get any help going. Heather

you can name it "possibly a Hypholoma species", you can also name it "possibly Hypholoma fasiculare" but it might as well be a "Pholiota species" in my opinion. So it is up to you how you name it, but a "correct naming" will not be possible by the picture only, in this case.

Given the gill image I agree with Andreas. I would probably name this as 'Unknown fungus'. There's just not enough information!
