| | | Mystery Bracket Fungus Hello there
As usual, I'm after some expert advice .... this seen in April 2009, close to the River Tay near Dunkeld in Perthshire. 5 inches across, growing on a fallen tree trunk. Any help much appreciated. Many thanks Heather |

| | | Re: Mystery Bracket Fungus With the larger gill maze and a lighter colour atop the bracket, I would opt for Daedalea quercina. |

| | | Re: Mystery Bracket Fungus With that open, maze-like pore pattern and overall size I would be more inclined towards Daedalea quercina - Oak Mazegill which is more selective about it's host substrate.
David
P.S. Nick pipped me to it as I was checking out the Plates of pore surfaces in FOS before hitting the submit button

| | | Re: Mystery Bracket Fungus I have to conflict with this one! Quercina is larger has a more pronounced lip and does not have such obvious zones like the trametes species. not the blushing bracket me thinks but more than likely lenzites betulina, favouring willow and birch.
sory to confuse the issue but have a good look at the zone lines and youll see my point |

| | | Re: Mystery Bracket Fungus The pore pattern is completely wrong (far too 'maze' like) for Lenzites betulinus in my opinion. |

| | | Re: Mystery Bracket Fungus it would always be a good idea to mention the substrate, makes life easier most of the time dont you think?
as far as the maze pattenn is concerend its bang on same as that in the description/photograph in Micheal jordans encyc of fungi?
if its the blushing bracket i am a chinaman! and if its Quercina, i am the king of england! |
