Fungi Start Point, South Devon


My wife and I were walking in a field near Start Point, South Devon looking towards Prawle Point on 3rd may 2009 when we saw this isolated group of 2 fungi. We have looked at the fungi Gallery and the nearest identification we have found is the Liberty Cap but it seems to be the wrong time of year for that. Any help identifying would be appreciated.

definitely not liberty caps - they look to me very like Panaeolus papilionaceus (= P. sphinctrinus)
