in my opinion this is Polyporus badius.
For Polyporus varius the cap is too dark brown and the stem to robust.

I'm still certain that it is Polyporus badius. The only other possible alternativ, Polyporus melanopus, has a never shiny surface, other habit and is occuring in summer and autumn in decidous forest on lime soil, growing apparently on earth, but sitting on burried wood indeed.
