| | | Today's curios
Yellow powder on bramble stem.
Looked like mollisia, on underside of oak log.
Minute asco's at base of bracken stem.
Cheers J.P.

hi J.P.
number 1 is the uredinial stage of the rust Kuehneola uredinis
number 2 is a Mollisia
number 3 is not (dare I say it) the best photograph in the world, but there is a small white disco which is very common on Pteridium stems at ground level - it is called Micropodia pteridina
cheers
Chris

| | | Re: Today's curios We'll be glad of your company anytime nick, today was such fun (cybershot
could end up as mad as me) finding so many things new to us.
Chris's you are more than welcome to be honest about that photo, i have
brought the sample home and will try to get a shot down the dissection
scope tommorow. As ever i'm amazed at your knowledge about whatever i
post.

| | | Re: Today's curios almost certainly Micropodia on the bracken
on the holly, this is immature Trochila ilicina - in due course (and given a bit of moisture!) the 'lids' will come off exposing the apothecia (cups) beneath
old holly leaves have an interesting array of micro-fungi associated with them as well as the wonderful agaric Marasmius hudsonii
cheers

| | | Re: Today's curios That is so helpfull Chris, Trochila ilicina isn't in any of my literature so it would
have been a "don't know" without your help, i will place in a damp chamber
and await development. (and yes i was looking for the marasmius, still never
found it but there is always tommorow).

| | | Re: Today's curios I'm looking forward to clumber being a real learning experience for me.
Just been informed of another bracken fungi to look out for Rhopographus filicinus, plenty of info on the web about it. (happy hunting)
