| | | First Fungi Request in Ages :D I found this today - I was thinking a Peziza sp. Is it unusual for it to be up in the spring. I found it on burnt beech wood. |

| | | Re: First Fungi Request in Ages :D i'm afraid those would need to see a microscope to be certain, i do have a
few growing on fire site (salix), a couple on a rotten Fagus trunk (P.varia
when i sent one for id last year) and think i now have some P. vesiculosa
emerging on compost. So yes they can be found in the spring.

| | | Re: First Fungi Request in Ages :D As J.P says, microscope jobby, but first image does have the P. vesiculosa look. |

| | | Re: First Fungi Request in Ages :D As if by coincidence, (it must be the rain).
Today on woodchip, the photo is only part of mass over quite a large area.

| | | Re: First Fungi Request in Ages :D You're lucky you have the habitat of these spring fungi at your disposal J.P. Ice been out today and seen nothing. You mustve had more rain- we didn't have much Mind you, we did see 7 grass snakes, 2 of which were a mating couple. Saw my first slow worm too, so not all bad!
More rain needed though |

| | | Re: First Fungi Request in Ages :D The Fleet weather station say's not quite 7mm of rain so far this month,
small puddles and just about moistened the ground, so as you say some
more wouldn't hurt.
Today the laugh is on me as often the case, i did a good two miles of
searching heath, various trees, fire sites, dung etc for nothing then my finds where just to one side of the car park
Every where is different, i have seen two grass snakes this year but oodles
of slow worms. oh and a dartford warbler (lepidoptera are out early to), about
three weeks and i think caterpillars will be abundant.

| | | Re: First Fungi Request in Ages :D Hi all,
I wouldn't wonder if KTs Peziza has finely warted spores and would then turn out as Peziza arvernensis.
best regards,
Andreas

| | | Re: First Fungi Request in Ages :D Hope i hav'nt disturbed your counting FJ, but your number skills are needed on
Peziza's, they seem to be popping up for a passtime. (have you tried an abacus).
Today on woodchip.
A wonder they don't fill with water when it rains.
